Kevin Lazaro Named Executive Director of С�Ŷ��Ƶnical Institute

SOUTH EASTON — Bringing with him 20 years of experience spanning career and technical education, human resources, and marketing, Kevin Lazaro was recently named��Executive Director of the С�Ŷ��Ƶnical Institute (STI).

Lazaro previously served as the��Director of Cooperative Education at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, a position he held for many years.

He succeeds Patricia Illsley, who served as��Executive Director at STI for the past eight years.

Lazaro holds a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Bridgewater State University and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on human resources from Fitchburg State University.

He also holds certifications from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Cooperative Education Coordinator and Supervisor/Director.

Lazaro plans to use the skills he has developed in human resources and business consulting to elevate STI, enhancing its reputation as a key community resource for workforce development.

“I hope to bring the Technical Institute to the forefront,” Lazaro said. “Not enough people know about it. I’d like it to become more of a household name, so we can help change lives by providing people with the skills they need to develop a new career in a short amount of time. The Technical Institute is where you can go from working as a waiter in a restaurant to becoming a medical assistant, a dental assistant, or a nurse. This is where you can gain all the skills needed to be a plumber and electrician.”

The STI — which has served the community for 50 years and is located at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School — provides accredited career training programs in fields including health care, manufacturing, service industries, and the trades, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. In addition to certifications, STI offers job placement support, small class sizes, flexible schedules, low tuition costs, and financial aid for qualified applicants. Ninety-eight percent of graduates become licensed or certified in their field, equipping them with the skills needed to meet the demands of today’s workforce.

Superintendent Holly McClanan welcomed Lazaro to the Southeastern community and congratulated him on the new role.

“I’m excited to welcome Kevin as Executive Director of the Technical Institute,” Superintendent McClanan said. “His diverse experience in vocational education and human resources gives him a broad-based perspective on how to support students and meet the needs of our regional workforce.”

Congratulations to the Day Practical Nurse Graduates; Hard Work Most Certainly Pays Off!

The Practical Nurse graduation ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 21st, in the new Southeastern Performing Arts Center. It was, to say the least, a full house with family, friends, & supporters in attendance as well as school committee members and incoming Superintendent Holly MacClanan. To begin the evening, Carissa Laiweneek led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Program Director, Pamela Rose, who offered some words of wisdom which included:�� be kind, honest, a team player, proactive, go that extra mile, remember the whole patient, listen and always be a patient advocate.

Judy Wendt served as guest speaker for the event. Ms. Wendt is currently the Office of Nursing Services Veteran Healthcare Administration RN Transition to Practice Residency Consultant.�� Lauren Ebbs was selected as the student speaker to represent the class of 2022. The evening concluded with the pinning ceremony and the reciting of the Nurses Pledge. Truly moving…”

Metal Fabrication (welding) will begin in September and run Monday – Thursday evenings as well. No entrance exam or application required! STI’s Practical Nurse Job Fair Was a Big Success!

Thank you to the 11 organizations who participated in our practical nurse job fair which took place in the beautiful new SPAC, Southeastern Performing Arts Center. Many students completed applications & discussed potential job opportunities with Atrius Healthcare, LifeCare WB, Baypointe, Orchard Cove (Newbridge on the Charles), Veterans Administration, Signature Healthcare, Maxim Healthcare, Rachel Low, Wellpath, South Shore Medical Center, Brigham & Women’s & Bayada С�Ŷ��Ƶ Health Care.

A special shout out to STI alumni Margareth Lalanne ‘2019, Lindsay MacDonald ‘ 2021, and Matt Mason ‘2013 who shared their experiences in nursing & offered professional advice and tips for the soon-to-be graduates. Matt is currently working in acute care. He has his BSN and plans to attend Regis College in September 2022 for Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Praxtitioner Program. Margareth is an LPN working as a Unit Manager in long term care. She is currently taking prerequisite courses at Massasoit for associates degree. Lindsay MacDonald is currently working as an LPN for a pediatric clinic and looking to pursue her ADN at Massasoit. They shared wonderful ideas for success, being professional and knowing your limits when applying for a job. Matt’s advice “you won’t know it all, nor are you expected to, just know when to ask questions.”

A Special Evening for the Graduating Classes of 2022!

Tuesday evening, June 14th, ��was a truly memorable event as the first “normal” graduation since 2019.�� Eighty-four graduates from 9 programs were able to cross the stage in front of almost 600 guests.�� Several members of STI’s school committee were in attendance as well as incoming Superintendent of the Southeastern Regional School District Holly McClanan. Dual Enrollment Scholarship Presented to an Outstanding Mansfield High School Graduate

On May 27th, STI Administrator Ms. Braga presented Rodney Vernet with his Dual Enrollment Scholarship Award at Mansfield High School. The Dual Enrollment program at STI invites qualified high school students to begin a career while still enrolled in their senior year. Participation in Dual Enrollment requires commitment and focus. Rodney has been enrolled in the STI Electricity program since January and is doing well in all of his classes here and in high school. In December Rodney will graduate from the program prepared to become an electrical apprentice. This $2,500 scholarship is awarded to Rodney with our congratulations!

STI ‘s Dual Enrollment Program enables high school seniors to attend STI in the evening, while enrolled in their second semester of high school, and graduate from STI within six months to one year from their high school graduation date. Current programs offered include Cosmetology, Electricity, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, & Medical Assisting. Application deadline is December 1st. Interested students should see their guidance counselor.��

Congratulations to Stacey Sampson for receiving this prestigious award, given by the American Dental Assistants Association, which recognizes those dental assisting students who exhibit proficiency in four-handed dentistry and exemplify the critical contribution an educated dental assistant makes to the success of clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and improved office efficiency. A Strong Finish for the Evening Medical Assisting Graduates, Class of 2022!

Heartfelt congratulations goes out to STI’s inaugural evening medical assisting class – the first group of evening students to graduate: Alena C., Tyesha G., Wilmadys P., Rachael P., Faith T., & Amy W. This determined cohort overcame personal obstacles such as work commitment, family responsibilities, and�� COVID limitations, to succeed in this rigorous program and achieve their goal of becoming valued members of the healthcare industry. They boast an 83% pass rate on the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant Exam) and all students are either working or actively pursuing promising opportunities. The class worked collaboratively to encourage each other’s success through study buddies and group chats in addition to their own individual strategies to improve. The faculty and staff are extremely proud of their achievements & wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.
